1. How did you meet?
Mark and I met at University. It was only afterwards, ten years later, that we finally got together. Thanks to the internet and a couple of bold, flirty emails Mark came to visit me in London.
2. How did you get engaged?
The engagement was a complete surprise. Mark proposed at The Dorchester. I got duped into thinking I was going to a cocktail party - little did I know there was a ring waiting for me!
3. Where did choose to have the ceremony venue and reception?
We chose the Gothic NG Church on the main street. The reception was on Rickety Bridge wine farm. We were instantly impressed with the beauty and surroundings of Rickety Bridge and the staff were professional and welcoming too.
4. What research and planning did you do before the wedding?
We did lots and lots of planning and driving from venue to venue.
5. How many guests attended your wedding?
86
6. What did you 'make from scratch'?
Invitations, ring pillow (my friend Vicky made it), menus, placecards, thank you cards. We didn't have a wedding co-ordinator and so we organised and found suppliers ourselves.
7. What was your biggest extravagance?
The venue and the food.
8. Where did you save the most money?
South Africans would think our wedding was expensive. But with the average wedding in the UK costing £21,000 we saved loads by having it overseas.
9. Would you change anything about your wedding?
I only wish I'd taken a swim the morning of the wedding like everybody else did!
10. What advice would you give to someone planning a wedding?
Keep a budget. If you are getting married overseas keep tabs on currency fluctuations. Do your research. Get several quotes from suppliers, don't just jump at the first price you get. Ensure that you get quotes in writing so you don't get any nasty surprises further down the line. Don't be in a rush. If you can, try and save and pay off suppliers as much as you can. You don't want to start married life off in debt.
