Table settings

Doing your own table settings
When doing your own table settings remember your theme and be practical advises Laura Mason
Table settings can say a lot about a couple and follow a theme of the day. Informal receptions can take a relaxed approach, whereas formal events will be more stringent. Usually the venue will take care of china, linen and glassware, however if you want them laid out in a specific way, make sure you speak with the manager beforehand.
Once you have these essentials sorted, a centrepiece is an important addition to your table setting as a focal point, which all tables should have. Elegant floral table centres are the most popular option. They offer an excellent way of adding colour to your tables, however this shouldn’t limit your creativity. Carol Moh from Confetti, which specialises in stationery and wedding decor, suggests: “Flowers aren’t the only option -- candles on their own are a romantic option, especially for those getting married in winter months. If you’re looking to keep costs down, a bowl containing sweets and favours is another option, or try having a simple glass vase holding a single, elegant bloom.”
WFS guide:
1. Remember your theme: Take a look at your theme and have a think about what would be suitable for your table setting.
2. Do your research: Look in magazines for inspiration, and visit wedding fayres and venues for examples of table settings.
3. Practicality: Don't get over the top elaborate or large table decorations that will block your guest's view.
4. Don't clutter: Think about what you want on the tables and draw up a list. You may want to do a mock up of how to the tables will look so to ensure they are not too clutterd.
5. Entertainment: If you are having a lot of children at the wedding, explore colouring books and entertainment packs, or sweets to keep younger children occupied while waiting for food.
6. Favours: Consider how you want to display your favours. Do you want them in favour organza bags or top hats next to the glasses, or they could form the basis of a focal point in stacked boxes or on a stand.
