The Secrets of Glowing Skin
By Joyce Connor
Drink plenty of water: Drinking lots of water keeps your skin and your body hydrated and is especially beneficial after exercise, when you need to replace the water your body has lost during your workout. Caffeine acts like a diuretic, decreasing the body’s water content, so every time you have a cup of tea or coffee drink an equal amount of water afterwards to counteract this.
Guard against the sun: Check your makeup and skincare products for their sun protection value. A minimum SPF15 is recommended for the face and body. All year round sunscreen is a must because it not only protects your skin from ageing, it reduces your chances of developing skin cancer. If your skincare or make doesn't contain a sunscreen apply one on top of your moisturiser and underneath your foundation.
Exfoliate your skin regularly with a gentle exfoliator: This promotes glowing skin because it removes all the dead skin cells and makes your complexion much brighter. It also aids the penetration of your moisturiser, leaving your skin smooth and healthy looking. Don't use exfoliators with large granules as these can scratch your skin's surface.
Choose products that are suitable to your skin: You might think your friend’s skin looks great, so ask what products she uses. If her skin is a different type from your own find out if her chosen brand makes products for various skin types which might include your own.
Cleanse thoroughly and moisturise: Make up will blend better on clean skin rather than skin that still has a residue of old make up on it.
Go for a lighter coverage of make-up to give your skin a fresher look. Choose a tinted moisturiser or a liquid foundation as powder, stick or compact foundations can give a heavy caked look and result in the dull appearance you are trying to avoid.
Remove makeup before bedtime: Your skin renews itself whilst you sleep so a freshly cleansed and moisturised face is great to wake up to.
Get plenty of sleep: Lack of sleep can cause puffy eyes and dark circles. If you find it hard to sleep then try to relax in a nice, warm, aromatherapy bath before bedtime.
Cut down on alcohol and smoking: This damages skin cells, which is irreversible.
